(Basically, a little Champtions-type campaign based off of Mass Effect. Most in-game lore or references to the world you can find right in the Galactic Codex.)
You do NOT have to have played any Mass Effect titles, nor is Mass Effect experience going to make you any better at this.
Project Phantom. Never heard of by civilian, Turian, or Alliance ears who aren't of a higher pay grade than Spectres. But there has only been one Human Spectre, and he/she wouldn't be born for a long time. Everyone knew that. Unless, of course, they knew about Project Phantom. Project Phantom was a small team of Human Spectres in the year 2165. They were set aside for only the most dire situations.
BACKGROUNDIn terms easier than reading the entire Codex, in the year 2157, Humans found artifacts on Mars that uncovered an ancient race known as the Protheans and revealed that Pluto's "moon" was actually a mass relay, a sort of inter-galactic transit system. The mass relay operates off of the "Mass Effect", a process by which the mass of an object is lowered or increased.
There were aliens such as the Turians, Asari, Salarians, and Krogan, just to name a few. The Turians declared war on the Humans after they set up the colony of Shanxi, which the Turians invaded. This war was called the "First Contact War" and ended five years later. The Council is a council of three representatives, an Asari, Turian, and Salarian, who live on the Citadel, a giant Spaaaaaace Station which is the seat of Council Government. The Council has a special organization of Spectres: soldiers of the Special Tactics and Reconnaissance squad and elite peacekeepers. They work without any rules, and their power is only limited by the firepower they can muster.
Other groups in the Galaxy are The Alliance, basically a human spaaaaaace navy, the Turian Hierarchy, and the Batarian Hegemony. Pretty much everything not claimed by a group is labeled as the Traverse. The species I have bee naming off are the important ones, but you can look them up in the codex as we go along. Handy that.
